Average Friday As A Porsche Dealership Custodian

Hello everyone! I thought a fun blogging exercise would be a walk through of my everyday as a "Maintenance Specialist" (aka custodian haha) at a Porsche dealership! I both work and attend college full time, which is as stressful as it sounds, so I count myself very lucky to work for a company that places so much trust in my ability to manage both!! Pardon the low quality photos, I have a Unihertz Jelly Star so I'm not rocking with the best camera.

Morning, 7:30 to 9:00

I start everyday with cleaning offices! People tend to come in early in this industry so I like to make sure they're all coming in to a clean and neat environment. As a certified ADHD haver, I know how important it is for me to have neat predictable environment with very little distractions so I probably take this step more seriously haha. After this I mop and buff the show room to remove any footsteps or tire marks from newly sold cars. I usually listen to podcasts or audiobooks this early. I recently got a collection of Dostoyevsky's books on A*dible and thats been my go to lately (if anyone knows a more ethical audiobook dealer pls let me know haha).

Late Morning 9:00-11:00

Cleaning bathrooms! This doesn't take very long but might be my least favorite part of my job, only because it's the task where I end up getting in peoples way the most. After this, I typically take out the trash from the two lounge areas and clean the tables/counters around the dealership. Most doors in the building are white or glass so they accumulate handprints fairly quickly and I spend the next quarter hour wiping those down.

Early Afternoon 11:00-12:00pm

Lunch Break!! I usually work on homework during lunch but It's currently summer break so I've been writing for my upcoming zines or working on content for my current Old School Essentials campaign. I usually stick to Huel... or ramen... or leftovers, really whatever I can get my hands on... I might work for a luxury car brand but I'm still a college student navigating the floundering American economy haha.

Afternoon 12:00pm-2:00pm

Mopping and cleaning the delivery room! This is the room where people receive their cars after purchase so it's kiiind of important that this room stays presentable. Usually this just means mopping and wiping down the various glass surfaces. After this I usually go through and sweep up any new dust bunnies or crumbs that've appeared as clients have started to meander through the doors. I usually also take this time to help out in other parts of the dealership, parts, the shop etc.

Late Afternoon 2:00pm-4:00pm

This is where my day considerably slows down as I tend to just float around taking care of anything that catches my attention. For instance today I glued several office baseboards down for a cleaner fit and wiped down the glass guard rail on the second floor. After this I go around and collect trash from offices and clean the technician bathrooms.

End of Day 4:00pm-5:00pm

Most days I spend the last hour taking inventory of my supplies to place an order with out parts guys in the morning but I would be lying if I didn't say sometimes I just spend the last hour socializing haha. I tend to purposely front load my days so I can spend the last couple hours being social with my coworkers and even work on homework in the janitors closet if I find the time. After this I clock out and commute back to my apartment downtown, wash, rinse, repeat until Saturday! :D

Thanks for reading everyone! I hope I've given an intresting glimpse into some of the work that goes on behind the scenes in a massive industry like luxury automotive! Hoping to finish my fiction zine by the end of the month and I'll for sure post a download link when thats done!
